Should you repair or replace your water softener or carbon system
We get this question often and think it is a good one.
Replace vs repair is a balancing act for sure.
If the water softener is less than 5 years old it is most likely under warranty and is usually worth repairing.
If your softener is over 10 years old, you will find it is far easier and usually cheaper to replace it.
If it is under warranty, go to who you got it from for repair. If they are out of business, you are probably on your own.
A new softener is about $500.00-600.00 Delivered.
A new head is about $300.00 Delivered
New Resin is about $130.00 Delivered.
A new salt tank is about $150.00 Delivered
That being said, I find if you have to fix one thing, you will have to fix all things soon after since they tend to wear out at the same time.
For myself, I would rather fix it once and do more important things in life. A new softener will give you many years without problem as long as you use pellet salt (99.5% pure) and a automatic resin cleaner.
You have to decide how much you are willing to invest in it or if you should just replace the softener. If you are lucky, you may be able to get off cheap without a lot of hassle. If you are like me, it will cost more to keep fixing it then it is to replace it.
