Question
What is the shelf life of ultra pure water Does it change once the bottle has been opened?
Answer
Ultrapure water can not be bottled because it rapidly degrades due to the absorption of CO2 which creates carbonic acid. (CO2 + H2O = H2CO3). Ultrapure water must be made as you use it. Pure water also has no immune system (Chlorine in most cases) so it is very susceptible to bacterial growth which adds many different contaminants to the water. It can be sterile bottled but once opened it is easy to contaminate.
